Why buy the Google Pixel Fold?

Foldable OLED 7.6 inch display
5.8 inch front display
120Hz refresh rate for silky smooth scrolling

Introduction

Being Google’s first foldable Pixel phone, they have really pushed the boat out on getting everything perfect. They haven’t compromised on any aspect of the design and many of the Pixel components were uniquely designed to fit within the slim chassis of this foldable phone.

The Pixel Fold also boasts a 48MP triple camera, 9.5MP selfie camera, a top spec processor chipset and mega battery as well as incredible photographic editing tools such as Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur. There is really nothing you can’t do with the Pixel Fold.

Design

The foldable tech on offer with the Pixel Fold opens up all kinds of possibilities for the user - you can even use it as a tripod for photos or as a stand to watch movies. Whether you are using the smaller screen in the more pocket-sized form - which allows you to do all the usual tasks such as browsing the internet or responding to messages - or have it flipped open to reveal the stunning 7.6 inch screen in all its glory, you will be amazed at the intuitive design features.

Google claims it has the thinnest profile of any other foldable phone on the market with favourite apps optimised to take full advantage of the larger screen. The custom built hinge also adds to this slimness and is especially robust to handle the folding screen technology.

Added to the phone’s durability is a Corning Gorilla Victus outer screen and IPX8 rating for water resistance.

Camera

Snappers can look forward to a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP main sensor. Alongside this is a 10.8 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a 10.8 MP ultrawide camera with 121 degree FOV (field of view).

There are two selfie cameras thanks to the unique design of the smartphone with a 9.5MP camera on the cover display and an 8MP image sensor on the main display. You can also look forward to lots of fun Artificial Intelligence features and modes to perfect your shot and the chance to get in the group photo yourself by using the phone in tripod mode.

Video

The video capabilities on the Pixel Fold are also top notch with pro-level modes lifted straight from the Pixel 7 Pro such as 10 bit HDR video which gives your content impressive depth and vibrancy.

For the Spielberg’s out there, the Pixel Fold is capable of recording 4K at 30 or 60 frames per second (fps), and 1080p at 30, 60, 120, or 240 fps with the rear camera. The selfie cameras are able to record 4K at 30 or 60 fps, or 1080p at 30 or 60 fps.

Display

The Pixel Pro doesn’t just have one fabulous screen but two! Both of these screens boast a refresh rate of 120Hz which has to be seen to be believed. Animations and scrolling are so smooth that it can feel as though you're scanning the pages of a book or magazine rather than looking at a smartphone screen.

When fully open, you have the tablet sized 7.6 inch display and when pocket-sized you have the more regular smartphone sizes screen at 5.8 inch. You can do all the tasks you would expect to do with the smaller screen but the larger screen starts to open up all kinds of new possibilities. Whether you want to read a book, immerse yourself in a game or split the screen to multi-task, the Pixel Fold makes it possible and it's a premium experience at that. You can use the Taskbar to easily switch between your apps or drag more than one app into splitscreen mode where you can drag and drop files between each one.

Processor

The Google Pixel Fold has the same Tensor G2 chipset as the Pixel 7 Pro and is available with 256GB or 512GB of storage options. RAM is fixed at 12GB which is plenty for a top tier device.

Battery

The Pixel Fold beats the Galaxy Z Fold 4 on battery size at a massive 4,821mAh which Google claim will allow users 24 hours of video playback time and up to 72 hours of standby time. There is also support for 30W fast wired charging as well as Qi-standard wireless charging.

Colours and Options

The Pixel Fold has 256GB or 512GB storage options and the colours to choose from are Porcelain (white) and Obsidian (black).
