If you have been looking around for a new phone to buy, there is a good chance that you have at least considered the Apple iPhone 14 Plus. This smartphone is the real deal, with plenty of internal memory, a great camera, beautiful colours for the exterior, and all the latest tech, as well as a powerful chip powering it all too. Most of all, this is a very welcome big-screen option for the 14 range, and that alone is going to be enough to entice plenty of people to try this version out. Let’s look at all the specs you would need to know about right now.
The first thing to say about the design is, of course, the big screen that the Plus offers. This is a good option for a lot of people, including those who need a little help visually as well as those who want to use their iPhone for watching movies and TV - something the display can deal with very well, as we will shortly see. This Plus phone is essentially just the 14 Pro, but with a larger screen. However, on the downside, you are going to miss out on some of the extra features that you would get as standard with the Pro line. It’s up to you which you prefer to go for.
Because this Plus range is all about that big screen, it makes sense for the camera to be sufficient for that too - and it definitely is. With the Apple iPhone 14 Plus, what you get is two amazing high-quality cameras. For the primary camera, you have several options depending on the kind of photo you wish to take: 12 MP, f/1.5, 26mm (wide), 12 MP, f/2.4, 13mm, 120? (ultrawide) respectively. As for the secondary camera, you have a 12 MP, f/1.9, 23mm (wide), SL 3D camera with an inbuilt depth and biometrics sensor - just one of many sensors this phone comes with.
Again, you obviously expect a phone that’s all about the size of the screen to capture decent video - and indeed it does. With the Apple iPhone 14 Plus, the video recording ability is truly amazing, indeed somewhat unparalleled - except of course by the Pro version of the same phone. Specifically if you are keen to know, it’s 4K@24/25/30/60fps, 1080p@25/30/60/120/240fps, HDR, Dolby Vision HDR (up to 60fps), so that is a very good quality piece of kit that you are going to have in your pocket - and you’ll be able to watch those videos back on that big screen with joy.
This is where the iPhone 14 Plus shines. Even the Pro version has a display that you will be really happy with, but the Plus is all about this, and it’s therefore unsurprising that it really does deliver on this front. Specifically, the display is a huge 6.7 inches, which is a full 0.6 inches bigger than the Pro version, and that makes a huge difference to your experience of it. Yet, that is not too big as to be unwieldy, so you won’t have to worry too much about the handling of the device. But with a screen that big and a resolution of 1284 x 2778 pixels at a 19.5:9 ratio, you can watch anything you like in great quality on this device.
You can only do that, however, if the power behind the device is up to scratch. The good news there is that this Plus version of the range has exactly the same chipset as the Pro version: namely, the Apple A15 Bionic, easily one of the most powerful chips for a smartphone ever invented, if not the most powerful. Because of that, this phone can do everything you need it to do and more, and the hexa-core CPU helps out with that too.
A lot of people wonder about the battery life, partly because it’s an Apple phone and partly because of that always-on display - and a big one at that. As it happens, the battery life on this Plus device is not too shabby - it’s a lithium-ion, non-removable battery, and it offers a considerably larger battery life than both its Pro alternative, and many other Apple phones that have come before. That’s good news if you want to use this device for watching movies on long journeys, which is definitely one of the major selling points of this particular phone.
Probably the most significant downside to this phone is that it is missing out on many of the features of the Pro version, and that includes the options that you can have with the phone in other cases. However, in terms of choices of colours, you have the same as the Pro: a beautiful gold that will amaze everyone and looks truly brilliant, a deep purple that you will definitely love, and the classic options of sleek black or smooth silver. All in all, it’s a phone well worth looking into.
