Samsung Galaxy S23 rumours – spec, launch date, everything we know
The Samsung Galaxy only launched in February 2022, but if we’re honest it wasn’t the convincing step forward most people were looking for. The Galaxy S22 Ultra might be incredible, but the other models in this – Samsung’s flagship range – are quite a tame update of the excellent Galaxy S21. It’s no surprise, then, that we’re all keenly interested in what the next generation of Samsung’s best phone will bring. It’s early days, but here’s our roundup of Samsung Galaxy S23 rumours.

Samsung Galaxy S23 launch date
Almost the most definite thing about this phone is that the Samsung Galaxy S23 launch date will be February 2023. Of course, nothing’s really certain until it’s announced, and with the global chip production issues still ongoing it’s still possible we’ll have to wait longer. All the same, in the absence of concrete information that’s by far the most likely date.
Samsung Galaxy S23 design
It’s far too early for meaningful rumours to emerge about the Galaxy S23 design. Expect to find out more about its size and shape a few months before launch, when moulds are released to – and probably leaked by – accessory manufacturers. As Samsung’s flagship slate-format smartphone, we’d expect something classy and beautifully put together, if not any notable innovation.
Samsung Galaxy S23 display
The trend is for screens to get bigger, even if that means larger phones. It’s likely there’ll be a Galaxy S23 Ultra with a 6.8” or bigger screen, and mainstream S23 models with at least a 6.1” display. Expect a top resolution of 3,088×1,440 or better on the Ultra, and 2,340×1,080 or more on other models. Just like the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S23 will get a variable refresh rate, which we’d expect to top out at 120Hz.
Samsung Galaxy S23 features
The Samsung Galaxy S23 will almost certainly support wireless charging and 5G, and offer waterproofing. Any Galaxy S23 Ultra is likely to retain the very popular S Pen support, too. It’s harder to speculate about other features at this stage. With Apple rumoured to be evaluating satellite network support for emergencies, it’s possible Samsung could follow suit, but we’ve seen no rumours or leaks to actually suggest that.
Samsung Galaxy S23 performance
The Galaxy S22 is a strong performer, but it’s not the best. Again, we haven’t seen any leaks to suggest it, but we’d like the Galaxy S23 to be a significant upgrade.
Samsung Galaxy S23 camera
There are persistent rumours that Samsung is evaluating a 200-megapixel (MP) chip for its smartphone cameras. If true, it’s possible that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will be the first phone to receive it.
What would that mean for Samsung Galaxy S23 photography? A larger chip with more sensors is likely to offer insanely detailed photographs in strong lighting conditions. In low light, pixel binning would allow crisp, low-noise images at a lower resolution. On paper it sounds like a game changer, but does anyone really need a 200MP photo?
Samsung Galaxy S23 battery
We’re yet to hear anything on the Galaxy S23 battery, but there’s a consensus that using slightly smaller batteries in the S22 range compared to the S21 may have been a mistake – the Galaxy S22 lags slightly behind some other flagships for battery life. We hope Samsung might reverse this for the next generation.
Samsung Galaxy S23 UK price
Samsung slashed the price of the Galaxy S21 range at launch, but the Galaxy S22 is priced identically to its predecessor. It’s too early to say whether the Samsung Galaxy S23 price will be lower, but – global economics notwithstanding – we wouldn’t expect it to go up.
