A Galaxy Ring to rule them all
This month, Samsung held its second big Unpacked launch event of 2024, finally fully unveiling the new Galaxy Ring wearable and two upgrades versions of their increasingly popular foldable phones.
Let’s dive in and see just what was unpacked.
Galaxy Ring
The smartwatch is so last year. Introducing the smart ring. The first of its kind from any phone or smartwatch big name brand.
It’s not the first smart ring wearable as there are already clever rings in the market that do stuff like give you insights into your sleep, fitness and stress, but this ring is from Samsung and therefore part of a pre-existing ecosystem of devices enhanced by Android and Galaxy Artificial Intelligence.
If you have the Galaxy smartwatch already, you will be familiar with some of the feature the ring offers, including sleep and activity tracking, along with general wellness.
Galaxy AI further enhances insights with an energy score and personalised wellness tips for nutrition, activity and sleep.
The Galaxy Ring works using some tiny health trackers on inside of the ring that monitor heart rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen. The ring’s battery lasts for up to seven days without a charge but also comes with a self charging case for travel.
It also has other features you won’t find on other wearable rings, including a double pinch gesture which communicates with your Galaxy phone to capture content or snooze your alarm.
Some smart ring services charge a monthly fee but Samsung have chosen to waive that (for now), in the hope no doubt that if you own a Samsung Ring, you’ll also purchase a few more Samsung Galaxy products.
There are 9 sizes of the ring available (Samsung provide a ring sizing tool to help you make the right choice) and it is made from titanium with multiple finishes to choose from. Interestingly, the bigger the ring you go for, the better the battery life.
The Galaxy Ring is available to buy now.
New foldables: Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6
The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are the next in the series of foldable phones from Samsung.
As well as all the clever tech and increased screen space that comes with a foldable phone, these phones are enhanced with the power of Galaxy AI which makes better use of the multiple screens and can do stuff like turn your S Pen doodles into impressive (albeit AI-generated) artwork.
There are also improved hardware features like a 50MP main camera for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and a more durable overall design – as Samsung continue to improve the foldable screen tech.
Samsung also confirmed that this year’s models are the slimmest and lightest Galaxy Z series yet.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 series are available to buy now.
Galaxy Z Fold6 is available in Silver Shadow, Pink and Navy, while Galaxy Z Flip6 is also available in Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue and Mint colour options.
You can sell your old Samsung phone on Mozillion.
New accessories: Galaxy Ultra Watch, Watch 7 & Buds 3
Launched clearly to complete with the top-tier Apple Watch Ultra, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is a premium version of the Galaxy Watch including a better battery, greater durability and enhanced health and workout tracking. This is the watch for those of you that are really into tracking their outdoor activities beyond just the usual standard fitness measuring.
Outside of those features, the other big headline for the Ultra is that is has a sleep apnoea sensor, detecting whether you have mild-to-severe breathing issues when asleep.
While we are on watches, the Galaxy Watch 7 made its debut which is also souped up with more health tracking features compared to the Watch 6, plus an upgraded chipset.
Lastly, there are the Galaxy Buds 3 earbuds and the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro which promise better microphone quality, controls and adaptive AI-powered adjustments.
