Why buy the Nothing Phone (2)?

Glyph Interface
100% recycled chassis
120Hz adaptive refresh rate for smooth scrolling

Introduction

The Nothing Phone (2) is leading the industry with over 50% of its plastic components coming from bio-based and recycled sources. Plus it was created by a UK based manufacturer trying with all its might to shrink tech’s environmental impact which is a massive selling point.

The fact that it is so premium and striking in design - unlike any other smartphone on the market - and has so much power and high end tech under the hood for the price is further proof that this phone is for the cool kids that want to make a difference and an impact in equal measure.

Design & The Glyph Interface

So what is a Glyph Interface anyway and why would you want it? Imagine if a boutique nightclub transformed itself into a phone and that is the best way to visualise the impact of the Glyph Interface. It consists of lightning strips on the rear of the phone encapsulating hundreds of LEDs which glow simultaneously depending on who is calling. There are also battery charging indicators and several new notification innovations from Nothing for its second smartphone. These unique notification lights also mean you can spend less time looking at your phone’s screen.

The design also includes a high durability rating with premium aluminium sides similar to the famous iPhone design but with a gentle curve.

Camera

The move to the more powerful processor under the hood of the Nothing Phone (2) helps to boost the camera power and there is also a new main camera sensor to discover - a Sony IMX890. There is also now a 32MP front camera as well as two 50MP rear cameras and an ultrawide lens.

The Nothing Phone (2) has a reconfigured HDR system for capturing professional looking photos with increased realism and clarity. Plus it has studio lighting features built in and bokeh (background blur) for close up shots and portraits.

Video

Nothing Phone (2) shoots exceptionally stable videos and works across all resolutions and frame rates. It captures at up to 1080p / 60 fps (frames per second) or 4K / 30 fps through the rear sensors and there are fun features to play with including slo-mo at up to 480 frames per second.

There is also a very generous bit rate - the 4K footage gets 50Mbps while 1080p/30fps is allocated a similarly above-average 25Mbps - which refers to the depth of information in video or audio and adds to the quality of your playback.

Display

Boasting 1 billion colours, the OLED HDR10+ display on the Nothing Phone (1) was already powerfully true-to-life and the Nothing Phone (2) has taken that immersive experience even further with its 6.7 inch LTPO OLED screen with a variable refresh rate.

The variable refresh rate (from 1 and 120Hz) contributes to power efficiency as it varies according to the content so power isn’t wasted unnecessarily.

The Nothing Phone (2) also has a brighter display moving from 500 to 1000 nits and peaking at an astonishing 1600 nits! This allows for striking and vibrant images even in bright sunlight and interestingly, Nothing is pushing a monochrome icon pack as part of Nothing OS 2.0 so despite its advanced display tech, you can go for a really minimalist look on your phone’s screen and cut out the colour all together.

Processor

Nothing OS is a stripped back version of Android which means it doesn’t need the largest, fastest processor to offer a fast and smooth experience. Hardware and software speak a single visual language with bespoke widgets, fonts, sounds and wallpapers. This then enables seamless integration with third party products.

Despite all this you can still expect a powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset under the hood which just adds to the slick and streamlined response rate. This particular processor is also well known for its power efficiency so it can handle graphically intensive games while still lasting a long time between charges.

Battery

The Nothing Phone (2) has a solid battery at 4700mAh which can last an easy 40 hours between charges. It also supports 45W fast charging which is ideal for a phone that you can’t do without. Plus, some clever Artificial Intelligence helps massively with power efficiencies and battery life. As part of their sustainability drive, Nothing have also aimed to produce a battery with increased longevity so it doesn’t lose its ability to hold its charge after frequent use.

Colours & Options

Nothing Phone (2) comes with options for 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256/512GB of storage and is available in black or white.
